WALKING TO THE AFFIRMATION OF LOVE
Jesus knows our weaknesses and the time when we will succumb to the trials and temptations. He is quite aware that Satan is asking permission to devour those who are close to Him, with the purpose of destroying the intimate relationship He has with His beloved ones. The challenge is for us to maintain our commitment to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Peter is about to face the ultimate test of his life. His commitment to Jesus will be questioned and all he can do on that moment is to deny his relationship with Jesus. We too have those moments of weakness that we fall short of our commitment. They are the seeming denial of Jesus lordship and salvation.
The beauty of this story is on the dialogue. It is like a love story of a husband about to be betrayed by his wife. He knows what has been going on behind His back, the existence of a personality trying to woo His wife away from Him. In Jesus’ own words: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers. (Luke 22:31-32).
Unlike most husbands, the love that Jesus has for Peter is so intense that He can still trust Peter beyond the betrayal. There is the assurance of restoration and healing in the unconditional love of God. Have you failed God in your life? How? What have you done afterwards?
MEMORY VERSE
But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy. Though I fall I will rise; though I dwell in darkness, the LORD is a light for me. (Micah 7:7-8).
